Chinese Government Scholarships for PNG Students

Notice on the Chinese Government Scholarships for PNG Students 2017/2018

In accordance with the MOU on Educational Cooperation between the Government of the People’s Republic of China and the Government of the Independent State of Papua New Guinea. The Chinese Government will provide twenty-two full bachelor’s degree scholarships and three full master’s degree scholarships for PNG students to study in China starting from the academic year 2017/2018.

Qualification Requirements:

Applicants for post graduate studies must be:

  • PNG citizen in good health;
  • Must be under the age of 35 with a Bachelor Degree or higher, and;
  • Must complete 2 – 3 years’ work experience.

Applicants for graduate/undergraduate program must be:

  • PNG citizen in good health;
  • Be under the age of 25 with a secondary diploma or Grade Twelve (12) Higher School Certificate with high academic performance.


Applicants are required to submit x4 Certified Photocopies of relevant application materials listed below:

  • Higher School Certificate;
  • Academic Transcripts;
  • Detailed Study Plan;
  • Two Recommendation Letters;
  • A Character Reference Letter from a Parish Priest/Pastor/Church Elder;
  • X4 passport sized photos attached to each application;
  • Birth Certificate;
  • Police Clearance Form;
  • Curriculum Vitae, and;
  • Current/Valid contact information of Parents/Guardians (separate sheet).

Priority field of study:

The priority areas of study include: sciences, technology, agriculture, medicine, economics, law, management, education, history, liberal arts, and philosophy.

Failure to apply on-line will automatically disqualify your application. Faxed applications will not be accepted. Note that the Foreigner Physical Examination Form will only be completed by the short-listed candidates only.

Applicants are also advised that if you do not receive any response from DHERST or the PNG Chinese Embassy after the 31st of March, 2017 then please consider your application as being unsuccessful.
